MACC at Komtar again to visit more excos

(FMT) – Several officials from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have arrived at Komtar to visit the offices of three senior state executive councillors following the discovery of fresh leads in a graft probe into the RM6.3 billion undersea tunnel and roads project.

It is learnt that the three officials who arrived at 9.35am are currently visiting the offices of Phee Boon Poh and Chong Eng, who are at the Penang MACC office where they are believed to be giving their statements.

The officials are expected to question Jagdeep Singh Deo later today.

Members of the press who had been awaiting their arrival were later told to leave by Komtar security officers, who directed them to the ground floor lobby.

Last week, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the tunnel probe case had been a work in progress since it began in 2017.

He also declined to comment on the possibility of exco members being arrested, saying this would be left to the discretion of investigating officers.

This was after Penang DAP said the investigation had been politicised, maintaining that MACC had confirmed no wrongdoing in the case.

MACC previously raided three companies, with a source telling FMT that the crackdown followed the resumption of a corruption probe into the project after the discovery of fresh leads.

A high-ranking former member of the Penang Port Commission was arrested and remanded for four days in connection with the case. He later posted a RM100,000 MACC bond.

Last week, officials from the anti-graft agency visited the officers of Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy and state executive councillor Zairil Khir Johari. Tomorrow, they are expected to question Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow previously said MACC had planned to speak to former exco members in the past administration when the undersea tunnel project was mooted and approved.
