Tok Mat asks Kit Siang if he still trusts Dr M
(The Star) – Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan wants to know if DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang still trusts Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad after the former prime minister failed to hand over the premiership to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as promised.
“On May 10 last year, Lim threw me a challenge that I should retire from politics and not contest the 15th General Election if Dr Mahathir handed over the premiership to Anwar two years after the last general election.
“He said this after I expressed doubts over this during the Sandakan by-election,” the Umno deputy president said in a statement on Sunday (May 10).
The Rantau assemblyman said that the Iskandar Puteri MP also claimed he would retire from politics if the power transfer did not materialise.
“But today (May 10), Anwar is Opposition leader (in Parliament), Dr Mahathir is struggling to save Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and Lim is back as an Opposition MP.
“That just shows how way off the DAP political supremo’s prediction was,” he said, adding that Lim had promised to quit politics many times but had never kept his word.
During a ceramah in Sandakan, Mohamad said he knew Dr Mahathir’s character and he was unlikely to relinquish the post to Anwar.
However, Mohamad refused to accept Lim’s challenge then and added that as a Muslim he did not indulge in betting.
He also refused to take up Lim’s challenge as he knew that the latter would not keep his end of the bargain.
