Pahang PKR calls for Anwar to lead Apec Summit
(Yahoo News) – Pahang PKR is continuing its call for a power transition by May, with its communications chief saying that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should be the one leading the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit.
Wan Fauzuldin Wan Samad said as the host, Malaysia must showcase a great and influential figure.
“Therefore, if the transfer of power between Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar is set for May this year as promised, then we will have the opportunity to see the Apec Summit led by Anwar.
“The summit this time will surely be the focus of the world, because Anwar’s leadership alone is enough to promote the country,” he said.
Dr Mahathir had reiterated his promise to step down after the Apec Summit, regardless of any decision made by the Pakatan Harapan presidential council.
Wan Fauzuldin said having Anwar as the new Prime Minister by the Apec Summit in November was fitting, seeing as he was once recognised as “Finance Minister Of The Year” by Asiamoney magazine.
“In 1998, Newsweek also named this reformation figure ‘Asian of the Year’. That same year, Anwar was appointed as the chairman of the World Bank/International Monetary Fund Development Committee,” he said, adding that Anwar had also been listed as the world’s 100 most influential people in 2008 by Time magazine.
“Naturally, Anwar should be given the opportunity to lead the summit this time to prove that the people are not wrong in choosing him as the Eighth Prime Minister.
“If Dr Mahathir is still not confident in Anwar, then why was he willing to meet Anwar in prison to ask Anwar’s blessings to become Prime Minister?” said Wan Fauzuldin.
