Ezam: Azmin dreamt of becoming PM since 2017

(The Leaders) – PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had always planned to undermine his boss, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s ascension to premiership.

Speaking to The Leaders Online, former Umno senator Mohamad Ezam Mohd Noor said that Azmin had plotted against Anwar way back in 2017.

“On Dec 31, 2017, Azmin had invited me for a private meeting at his official residence. He was the Selangor menteri besar then.

”In the meeting, Azmin said that he wanted to become the seventh prime minister, with Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as his deputy to placate Mahathir.

“And he wanted me to rally support for his political ambitions and I backed it,” he said.

However, Azmin’s plan went flat after the Pakatan Harapan leadership announced that Mahathir himself would become the prime minister if the coalition wins the 14th General Election.

Eventually, Pakatan won the general election and Mahathir took over the nation’s helm for the second time.

However, Ezam said that he backed out from Azmin’s camp in Feb 2019 after the latter went open season on Anwar and started supporting Mahathir to complete his term despite the power transition plan.

“Azmin is even plotting with several Umno MPs, including Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein to support Mahathir and block Anwar from becoming prime minister,” he said.

On why he stopped supporting Azmin, Ezam said that he was getting fed up with the power struggle within Pakatan, which is taking a toll on the nation and Malaysians.

“Let me be very clear here. It’s not that I’m pro-Anwar or anti-Mahathir. It’s just that all this politicking and power struggle is taking a toll on all of us.

“Our economy is going down. Investors are losing confidence in us. People are just getting sick and tired of what’s going on.

“And instead of resolving this, these people are busy plotting behind our backs. They are also trying to hijack the rakyat’s historic win by colluding with the opposition to form a backdoor government,” he said.

Ezam also cautioned the public on Mahathir’s return to his old dictatorial ways and urged Pakatan leaders to check on the nonagenarian.

“Don’t betray the people’s trust. Just stick to the power transition plan before we suffer an economic meltdown.

“If not, I’m going to go around the country and start another Refomasi movement,” said Ezam.
