Jho Low’s family bungalow in Penang seized

(FMT) – A bungalow belonging to the family of Low Taek Jho, a key figure in the 1MDB corruption scandal, has been seized by the authorities, a report said.

The Star Online said the three-storey bungalow in Tanjung Bungah Park is worth RM15 million.

It said officers from Bukit Aman’s Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Prevention division were at the property on Thursday to issue a notice of seizure from the Attorney-General’s Chambers under sub-section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001.

FMT sighted the notice, dated Jan 17, which said: “Pursuant to subsection 51(1A) of the Act, it is hereby ordered that such immovable property be seized by the investigating officer and all dealings in respect of such immovable property are prohibited.

“Take notice that failure to comply with this notice is an offence under the Act.”

The notice was signed by deputy public prosecutor Syafinas Shabudin.

The portal, which published a picture of the notice strung in front of the bungalow, said no one was at home when the officers called.

It said the property is under the name of Goh Gaik Ewe, 66, who is the mother of Low, or more popularly known as Jho Low.

Goh and her husband, Larry Low Hock Peng, also 66, have been named by Bukit Aman as persons of interest in connection with the 1MDB investigation.
