Is Mahathir planning to hold GE15 next year?

Is Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad planning to dissolve Parliament and call for a snap general election as soon as Anwar Ibrahim makes his move to take over as Malaysia’s Eighth Prime Minister? In that case, this explains why Pakatan Harapan is still in election mode and explains why the 2015-2018 election campaign is still ongoing almost six months after GE14.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

The hot news today is about 1MDB, the RM2.6 billion-donation, statements by the Saudi minister, statements by the former MACC boss, statements by the former PAC boss, statements about former Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak stealing money, statements about Hishammuddin Hussein searching for Jho Low, and so on.

Basically, this was the election campaign ammunition from 2015-2018 that saw Najib Tun Razak, Umno and Barisan Nasional being ousted in the 9th May 2018 general election or GE14.

But the general election was held almost six months ago. And yet the hot news and newspaper headlines give an impression that the election campaign is still ongoing and GE14 is yet to be held. Are they still campaigning for GE14 or are they campaigning for GE15 that may be held in early 2023 or thereabouts?

Let the hunt for Jho Low begin

I am beginning to suspect that GE15 may not be held in 2023 after all. Maybe GE15 is going to be held next year — which is why the ‘election campaign’ is still ongoing and why they are still churning out ‘hot news’ regarding 1MDB, the RM2.6 billion-donation, statements by the Saudi minister, statements by the former MACC boss, statements by the former PAC boss, statements about former Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak stealing money, statements about Hishammuddin Hussein searching for Jho Low, etc.

I can understand, pre-GE14, this hot news being played up, alongside the GST, etc., issues. But post-GE14 there is no longer any need for sensational news because Najib, Umno and Barisan Nasional have all been ousted and the new government can now get down to the business of running the country the way they say it should be run (other than ‘reforming’ school shoes and socks).

For more than 30 years Kit Siang has been telling Malaysia that the first thing they will do when they come to power will be to throw Mahathir and Daim into jail

There is such a thing called overkill and the ‘hot news’ today can be considered an overkill. If they have something new to say then well and fine. But to keep harping on the same old thing over and over again is as boring as Lim Kit Siang screaming for more than 30 years that the first thing they are going to do when the opposition comes to power is to arrest Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Daim Zainuddin and throw them in jail for the rest of their lives.

Yes, Kit Siang is what we would call a cock-teaser. He talks and talks and boasts that he has uttered or written 20 million words since he became a politician. He threatens to do this and that if they come to power. And now that the opposition has become the government apa dia buat? He still talks and talks and boasts that he has uttered or written 20 million words since he became a politician.

Is not the 1MDB matter and all matters related to 1MDB (plus more) before the courts? The MACC has investigated the matter. The PDRM has investigated the matter. The AGC has investigated the matter. Raids have been conducted. Hundreds of interviews have been conducted. Scores of statements have been recorded. And now the cases are before the courts and Mahathir says more arrests and charges are going to come.

Why is Kit Siang still talking about a matter that is already before the courts while he keeps silent about the promises he made over the last 30 years regarding Mahathir and Daim?

Hence this is now a legal matter, no longer a matter for the election campaign. Pakatan Harapan says this is the New Malaysia. Pakatan Harapan says in the New Malaysia the Rule of Law applies. But then Pakatan Harapan is still adopting trial by media in the court of public opinion. Is this not prejudicial to the court cases? So, what has changed since 9th May 2018?

Now tell us, what are Pakatan Harapan’s plans (other than putting all the Umno people in jail) to ensure that our children and grandchildren are going to have a good future in this New Malaysia of yours amidst the educational, social and economic reforms you have planned. Or have you not been able to find the time to plan anything yet because you all are still too busy campaigning for GE14 that was held six months ago?
