Siti Kasim slams Anwar over criticism of ‘super liberals’

(FMT) – Lawyer-activist Siti Kasim has slammed PKR’s Anwar Ibrahim over his comments on “super liberals”, saying they were people who protected the rights of individuals, including those accused of sodomy.

In a Facebook post, Siti said she couldn’t find the definition of “super liberals”. Liberals, however, believed that the government is necessary to protect individuals from being harmed by others, and recognise that the government itself can pose a threat to liberty.

“So, what I can surmise is that a ‘super liberal’ person is a person who especially and particularly cares about the rights of individuals, including people who have been accused of sodomy or related offences that do not have victims.

“You think being a super liberal is something to be ashamed of and it’s a crime?” asked Siti, who had criticised Anwar and PKR over the resignation of the Port Dickson MP to make way for the former deputy prime minister to become an MP again.

She said Anwar was “waging war” against the very people who will defend his rights in a victimless crime.

Earlier today, the incoming PKR president Anwar had urged Malaysians to rise up and defend themselves against the emergence of the “super liberals”.

Anwar said these days, these super liberals were of the view that only their opinions mattered and had to be followed. He did not name anyone in particular when he spoke at a Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka function.

Anwar cited the example of how he had been attacked by the group for engineering the Port Dickson by-election, even after he had gone through so much suffering in the past.

Anwar, who will contest the Port Dickson by-election on Oct 13, is seeking to make his political comeback, after receiving a royal pardon for his sodomy conviction.
