Media Statement by MP Bayan Baru YB Sim Tze Tzin: UMNO is desperate

I refer to statement by UMNO VP Khaled Nordin on UMNO’S grand vision of forming a new coalition to gain back power.

It is “nauseating” to see such statements come out time and again from these UMNO leaders. First started by former PM Najib who refused to admit defeat and tried his very best to form an ad hoc coalition immediately after GE14. Then we see UMNO President Zahid Hamidi bowing down to appease Pas President at every given chance. And today it’s Khaled Nordin’s turn to say similar nonsense.

It has just shown that UMNO is desperate. UMNO warlords who have enjoyed so much perks and privileges just simply couldn’t survive harsh realities being in opposition.

It is also a mischievous psychological game to divide Pakatan Harapan and create mistrusts among leaders and members.

Nevertheless, the new coalition envisioned by them will never be successful.

First of all, the mandate given by the people of Malaysia is very clear. In GE14, they voted for change. They wanted Pakatan Harapan to lead the country. They rejected UMNO-BN.

Secondly, Pakatan Harapan is a strong and stable coalition built upon years of close working relationships. The foundation among rank and files are very strong.

Leaders and members from top to bottom work together closely on many fronts from charting out common visions in PH Manifesto, to working tirelessly together in campaigns. These have forged strong consensus and camaraderie among ranks and files.

Many leaders were also the victims of political prosecutions during BN rule. These experience will not be forgotten easily. It is implausible that they can accept BN as partners.

Therefore, I would like to advise people like Zahid Hamidi and Khaled Nordin to forget their piper’s dreams and come back to reality. They should take the verdict of Malaysian voters in all honesty and humility.

They should repent for all their past mistakes and start to work to be a viable opposition.

Sim Tze Tzin
MP Bayan Baru
