Anwar Ibrahim to reverse the damage done by Dr Mahathir Mohamad
(FMT) – PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim today underlined the importance of Singapore to Malaysia, and dismissed any suggestion of problems between the two countries.
“I honestly don’t believe that there is a problem,” he told the S Rajaratnam Endowment Dialogue, part of the Singapore Summit 2018, which is jointly organised by state firm Temasek Holdings and government agencies.
Anwar also made a promise to his audience who also included former Singapore prime minister Goh Chok Tong and Temasek Holdings CEO, Ho Ching, who is also the wife of current prime minister Lee Hsien Loong.
“If and when I assume the premiership I will make sure the first country I visit is Singapore,” he said as quoted by Bernama.
In his speech, Anwar said he was optimistic that Malaysia would become a new economic force in South East Asia, saying Malaysia has “vibrant pro-growth policies, stable and a clean business environment”.
“With the rule of law prevailing, and democratic institutions firmly in place, I believe, God willing, Malaysia will emerge once again as an exemplary economic power,” he said.
