Clare Brown confirms Tony Pua is her “co-conspirator and collaborator”

(FMT) – Clare Rewcastle-Brown, who has been reporting extensively about the 1MDB scandal, said she was blacklisted by the Sarawak immigration over her reports on deforestation in the state.

Rewcastle-Brown, who runs whistleblower website Sarawak Report, said despite the cyberattacks by her detractors, she and her team had persisted in their attempts to expose corruption and other issues.

“But we need to work in exile out of fear,” she said at the launch of her book which details the controversy surrounding the state investment fund, 1MDB.

Rewcastle-Brown returned to Malaysia following the May 9 polls after the new government tore up an arrest warrant made out against her.

In 2014 and 2015, Sarawak Report published a series of articles, with leaked documents and emails, that detailed how money was allegedly syphoned off from 1MDB.

Today, she revealed that in the course of reporting on 1MDB, she found herself a target of a government-wide campaign against her website.

“Several parties were paid to slander me, while pretending to be activists, to discredit me,” she claimed.

Rewcastle-Brown also thanked DAP’s Tony Pua for being a “co-conspirator and collaborator”.

The book, she explained, encapsulates so much about what is going on in the world.

“I wrote this book with Malaysians in mind.”

She said she felt a responsibility in reporting the various corruption scandals, from Sarawak’s deforestation to 1MDB, due to the laws restricting mainstream media journalists.
