All the AGs since 1993 are crooks

Yes, since Abdul Kadir Yusuf, Hamzah Abu Samah and Abu Talib Othman from 1963 to 1993, Malaysia has been cursed with a string of crooks and scoundrels as Attorney-Generals. Now, what was it again that Pakatan Harapan promised in their GE14 election manifesto?

I personally knew Malaysia’s First Attorney-General, Abdul Kadir Yusuf, who was appointed when Malaysia was formed in 1963 (before that it was Attorney General of the Federation of Malaya). Kadir was a close friend of my parents while his son, Karim, was my classmate in the Victoria Institution (VI).

After Abu Talib Othman it was downhill all the way

After Kadir came Hamzah Abu Samah (1977–1980) and Abu Talib Othman (1980–1993). In 1994, Mohtar Abdullah took over — hand-picked by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad — and after that Malaysia’s judicial system went to the dogs.

When Mohtar got a stroke (he was in a coma for almost a year before he died) Ainum Mohd Saaid took over. However, she refused to ‘bend’ for Mahathir so she was immediately removed and replaced with a more ‘compliant’ Abdul Gani Patail (2002–2015), followed by Mohamed Apandi Ali (2015–2018), two more crooks.

And now we have Tommy Thomas — the lawyer for Chin Peng, Anwar Ibrahim and Lim Guan Eng. And Tommy Thomas was appointed the Attorney-General with only one purpose in mind — to acquit all Pakatan Harapan people facing criminal charges and to make sure Najib Tun Razak goes to jail.
