KJ: Mahathir was also in ‘last 60 years of BN’

Umno man says PH merely using the phrase as an excuse to cover-up their own failure to meet election promises.

(FMT) – Pakatan Harapan are using the excuse that they need “to undo the 60 years of BN’s imperfections” to cover-up their failure to meet election manifesto pledges, according to former minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said PH had often used that excuse, for example, when it failed to solve the PTPTN (higher education student loans) issue, as outlined in the manifesto.

It was time the new administration stopped hiding behind the phrase “undo the last 60 years of BN” and, instead, take up their own responsibilities in running the country. Many people had also started asking the government to stop the blame game and focus on their jobs, he said.

“PH said it is difficult to fix what BN had done but they must have forgotten that 22 years of BN rule was under Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” he said when campaigning in Sungai Kandis.

Mahathir, who was Umno president and prime minister from 1981-2003, left Umno two years ago, formed PPBM and lead Pakatan Harapan to power, becoming prime minister again in May.

“PH said that it had inherited a bankrupt state – but Malaysia is among the countries praised by international agencies, the World Bank and the World Economic Forum,” Khairy said. “And that was all achieved under BN’s administration.”

Khairy, who is Rembau MP, was the youth and sports minister in the previous government.

He said it was acceptable if the government criticised the 1MDB scandal which had only emerged in the last two or three years, but “don’t talk as if BN and Umno had never done any good in the last 60 years”, he said.
