Why Umno must choose Zahid and not Ku Li

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has demonstrated loyalty to the party president, Najib Tun Razak, and from 2015 right up to GE14 he stood by Najib. Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, however, said and did nothing but took the safe path and just kept quiet.

If he did not agree with Najib and believed that Najib stole 1MDB’s money then he should have spoken up. On the other hand, if he believed that the allegation is fitnah and that Najib is innocent he should also have spoken up.

Instead, Ku Li merely played safe. He waited to see which way the wind blows before opening his mouth. And this has been Ku Li’s trademark from before. He would never take risks and if he thinks the opportunity allows it he would jump in. If not he would remain neutral. That is the hallmark of an opportunist.

Umno needs fighters. Zahid is a fighter. Ku Li is not. Ku Li waits to be served and he wants Umno to serve him the party presidency. What has Ku Li done for Umno that Umno should make him the party president? And did Ku Li not say he wants to retire and will not contest GE14?
