Shahidan suffers a stroke after his fight with the Raja of Perlis

(The Star) – Perlis Umno chief and former mentri besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (pic) has suffered a minor stroke.

State Umno secretary Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin said Shahidan suffered a stroke few days ago.

“He’s not bedridden but the stroke has affected his movement and he is taking a complete rest,” said Zahidi.

Shahidan was the Perlis mentri besar from 1995 to 2008 and later became a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, a post he held until the May 9 general election.

The issue created a rift between him and Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

It was widely believed that Shahidan wanted his brother Datuk Ismail Kassim to be the mentri besar.

The Umno strongman later filed a suit challenging Azman’s appointment.
