Nurul Izzah backs Fahmi Fadzil as possible replacement in Lembah Pantai

(FMT) – Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has recommended PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil as her replacement if she is asked to contest elsewhere in the coming general election (GE14).

Nurul Izzah, who beat Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Shahrizat Abdul Jalil in 2008 and Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin in 2013, said Fahmi had the necessary qualities to take over in Lembah Pantai.

“He has been with us since the reformasi days (in 1998). He is dedicated and committed, and has good networking skills and serves the people.

“If the leadership decides to send me elsewhere, I would choose Fahmi to run in Lembah Pantai,” she told reporters after a Pakatan Harapan fundraising dinner here last night.

She added however that it would be up to the PKR leadership to decide on the candidate for Lembah Pantai.

BN has said it is confident of retaking the seat from PKR in GE14.

Raja Nong Chik previously said the development and transformation initiatives implemented by the government had boosted confidence in the BN machinery in the parliamentary constituency where Malays comprise more than half of the electorate.

The Election Commission’s redelineation exercise is also expected to favour BN there, as Bukit Aman, with almost 8,000 police postal voters, has been added to Lembah Pantai.

Speculation is rife that Nurul Izzah will contest in either Penang or Johor this time around. However, she said that Lembah Pantai was special to her.

“I defeated two ministers there. It was a challenge in 2008, but people believed in me.”
