MCA please settle the bill

(Kwong Wah Daily) – Every time when the Malay society is divided, UMNO leaders would divert their attention to the Chinese, the second largest community in Malaysia.

Robert Kuok, who stays overseas, has become an attack by UMNO leaders because of an article by a blogger. I was both surprise and frustrated. Why a community who has been struggling for fairness and equity would quietly allow such talks. When UMNO leaders said the wrong thing, they put the blame on Barisan Nasional Chinese-based political parties. They take the easy way out, and instead of confronting the leader who made such extremist statement, they skirt around the person involved and they continue to enjoy support of the Chinese community.

This is not the first time when UMNO leaders deliberately stir up absurd issue touching the raw nerve of the Chinese community. There have been many such cases. A friend in the coffee-shop tells Xiao Ming, he is already numb. Every time when the Malay society is divided, UMNO leaders would divert their attention to the Chinese, the second largest community in Malaysia.

Nazri has said something he shouldn’t say. However, the two points he raised deserve consideration by the Chinese community. The first is MCA does not represent the Chinese community and Robert Kuok also does not represent the Chinese community.

MCA does not represent the Chinese community and Robert Kuok is also not representative of the Chinese community? It is true that MCA has not been supported by majority of Chinese voters in the last two elections. But if this is used to deny MCA’s status representing the Chinese in Barisan, how can UMNO be so thick skin and claim that they represent the Malays when the party has fought for so long in Kelantan and yet could not command the support of the Malay voters there?

It is undeniable that Kelantan Malays do not represent the entire Malay community. Under the democratic spirit, the minority follow the majority and the majority respect the minority. It is true that majority of Malays support UMNO which is akin to saying that most Chinese support DAP. However, UMNO claims to be a Malay party while DAP is a multiracial party supported mostly by the Chinese. While DAP is supported by the Chinese, it cannot represent the Chinese solely because it represents all Malaysians.

DAP’s source of life originates from the Chinese community just like PAS’ lifeline is the Malays. If the Malays do not support PAS, can PAS continue to keep its power in Kelantan for so long?

The issue here is not who represents the Chinese community. It is about when would UMNO second-line leaders get rid of the mentality to punish the Chinese community and make them the scapegoat whenever they have  problems? Do you really need to be anti-Chinese in order to get ahead in UMNO?

MCA deserves the admonishment! They deserve to pay the bill when UMNO leaders go wrong! Why didn’t you wake up after the major setbacks in the 2008 election? Why gave away certain seats to UMNO to contest in the 2013 election?

DAP’s reaction in asking MCA to settle the bill is natural. Since it is obvious that the Chinese community is not happy with MCA, isn’t this a good time to push the party down the cliff? Do you expect DAP to join hands with MCA to fight against Nazri?

On the surface, DAP and UMNO appear to be arch rivals. But this does not mean their leaders cannot be friends in private. I envy UMNO leaders who can flirt with DAP leaders, even holding hands walking together.

I have never seen DAP leaders holding the hands of MCA leaders and caution them to be careful. As such, MCA should not blame Nazri. They should stand tall or otherwise, more UMNO leaders would take turn to torment you.
