MACC freezes accounts amounting to RM3.6mil, seizes luxury vehicles in graft probe
(The Star) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has frozen four company bank accounts with about RM3.6mil following the arrest of a “Datuk Seri” businessman for allegedly receiving RM19mil to close a corruption probe into the Penang undersea tunnel project.
According to a source, the MACC has also seized four luxury vehicles — a Toyota Vellfire, Mercedes Benz, Land Rover and Hyundai Starex — estimated to be worth RM1.3mil in total as well as three televisions worth RM167,900.
A house valued at about RM2.5mil located here was also seized.
MACC senior director of investigations Datuk Simi Abd Ghani when contacted confirmed the seizures and said his officers are still in the process of gathering evidence for the investigations.
The 37-year-old is believed to have received the money in three portions between July and August last year.
He has been remanded for six days, until March 5.
