Pakatan to fill up Pardons Board with ex-judges to help prove Anwar’s innocence

(MMO) – Pakatan Harapan will appoint ex-judges to be on the Pardons Board if they win federal power, so that they can help prove Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s innocence, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today.

Channel News Asia today reported the Opposition Leader as saying that she believed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong would consider the Pardons Board’s advice on the matter.

“Once we are elected, the government has a say in choosing and appointing members to the Pardons Board,” she reportedly said.

“Our Pardons Board will be filled with ex-judges so they can look into the matter and prove that Anwar is innocent,” she added.

Anwar, who is also Dr Wan Azizah’s husband, is due to be released from prison sentence for sodomy in June this year, but would be ineligible to return to legislative position for another five years due to his conviction.

PH previously said that the coalition plans to apply for a royal pardon for Anwar should it win the elections, which will enable him to return to public life right after his release and assume the position of the Prime Minister.

Its candidate for the post of Prime Minister in the forthcoming elections is Anwar’s former political nemesis Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
