AG’s Chambers dismisses allegation over influence of foreign parties
(Bernama) – The Attorney-General’s Chambers today dismissed allegations that it had acted in accordance with the instructions and influence of several foreign parties.
It said that the Attorney-General, as the principal legal advisor of the Federal Government, and the officers of the department acted in accordance with independent, transparent and conscientious considerations and the provisions of the law.
It said in a statement that the officers of the Attorney-General’s Chambers were members of the judicial and legal service subject to the jurisdiction of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission pursuant to Article 138 of the Federal Constitution.
“Matters such as the appointment and promotion of legal officers come under the jurisdiction of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission which carries out its functions in a transparent and independent manner without being influenced by any party,” it said.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers said it took into account very seriously any statement which questioned the integrity of the department which was a national legal institution that had always upheld the principles of the Rule of Law and Upholding of Justice.
