Be more like late Nik Aziz, Guan Eng tells Hadi
(MMO) – PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang should emulate the behaviour of the late Datuk Seri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, Lim Guan Eng said today.
Lim was responding to Abdul Hadi’s earlier claims where the latter reportedly said that he and Nik Aziz, who was fondly known as “Tok Guru” used to discuss their concerns over DAP’s alleged use of racial and religious rhetoric.
The DAP leader then said Nik Aziz never confronted DAP over such matters and when asked if he objected to Abdul Hadi’s statement, Lim sarcastically replied that people are able to decide on their own.
“If he wants to talk about how to be more Malaysian, I will let the people decide. He has said about making non-Malays second class citizen, about having a lower Cabinet of non-Muslims and a Higher Cabinet of Muslim policy makers.
“Abdul Hadi has said a lot of things. But what he should learn, he should learn from Nik Aziz who interacted with all races. Why is Hadi limiting himself to one group?” Lim asked.
He also pointed out that Nik Aziz, who held the post of spiritual leader since 1991 till his death in 2015, had no qualms with attending the late Karpal Singh’s funeral in 2014.
Lim himself said he attended Nik Aziz’s funeral about a year later and was granted the honour to speak and pay his last respects at a mosque.
“If that (Hadi’s allegations) were the case, I don’t think I would have been welcome to speak at the late Nik Aziz’s funeral,” said Lim.
When asked if he thought Abdul Hadi was lying, Lim refused to say much and tactfully pointed out that the only person who can verify the truth of the matter was Nik Aziz, who has passed away.
