(FMT) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today obtained an order from the Magistrate’s Court here to remand an engineering consultancy company chairman to facilitate investigations into the proposed undersea tunnel project in Penang.
The 62-year-old man, who has a “Datuk Seri” title, is believed to have had a hand in preparing false claims to the Penang state government for feasibility studies of three major roads and the tunnel in the state worth more than RM305 million.
The suspect was detained when he came to the MACC headquarters here about 2.44pm yesterday to give his statement.
It is learned that the man’s firm was once involved in various mega projects, including the construction of a bridge in Penang, a bus terminal in the federal capital and upgrading of a state airport.
The latest remand order brought the number of individuals detained by MACC in the undersea tunnel project probe to four.
The 7.2-kilometre project linking Persiaran Gurney to Bagan Ajam in Seberang Perai and three major roads was awarded to Consortium Zenith Construction.
