Dr M: Pakatan will deal privately with dissent over PM pick
(MMO) – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Pakatan Harapan will discreetly address members’ complaints about his selection as its candidate for prime minister.
The PH chairman said the matter will be resolved internally, claiming that the issue was not one that needed publicity.
“We are not dismissing anyone (opinion). There would definitely be those who do not agree,” Dr Mahathir told a press conference after chairing the PH presidential council meeting today.
“We will (discuss) later if they don’t agree. But this is an internal matter, there’s no need for the media to know,” he added.
PH announced Dr Mahathir as its candidate for the position of prime minister during its second annual convention earlier this month.
The Selangor chapter of PKR has openly disagreed with Dr Mahathir’s selection, and did not endorse him in a statement signed by the leaders of other components in the state.
PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also state PKR chief, previously said the Selangor PKR was not consulted on the joint statement and the absence of his signature did not mean the state PKR did not support the decision to name Dr Mahathir as PM candidate.
However, his deputy Zuraida Kamaruddin previously expressed disappointment over the selection of Dr Mahathir to be PH’s prime minister, saying it suggested the pact lacked depth among its leaders.
