PKR moves to sever ties with PAS in Selangor

(The Sun Daily) – The Selangor state government has frozen the annual allocations for PAS elected representatives as well as removed state PAS information chief Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir from the Subang Jaya Municipal Council, Sin Chew Daily reported today.

These actions, which are tantamount to the official severing of ties between the state government and PAS, also mean that the years-long efforts by PKR to maintain comradeship with the Islamic party for the sake of the 14th general election (GE14) has come to naught and that their seat talks have failed.

Given this scenario, Selangor is likely to see multi-cornered fights in many constituencies, which will greatly affect PKR and DAP’s chance of returning to power under Pakatan Harapan, a new coalition they formed with Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

Sources told the daily that Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had decided several days ago to stop the annual allocations for PAS MPs and assemblymen with immediate effect.

However, Azmin has no intention to remove the three state executive councillors, in order to not jeopardise the state administration.

A Pakatan leader who spoke to Sin Chew on condition of anonymity said Azmin’s decision is a tit for tat for Kelatan state government’s move to no longer appoint PKR elected representatives as its coordinator for constituencies held by Barisan Nasional.

However, local council posts held by PKR in Kelantan are not affected so far, the source said.

PAS holds 13 state seats in Selangor, the others are held by DAP with 14, PKR 13, PAN 2, Umno 12 and two independents.

In the last general election, PKR and PAS contested 21 state seats each and DAP, 15.

PAS has said it intends to contest at least 45 state seats in Selangor in the next general election.
