PAS predicts DAP will lead Pakatan in GE14
Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah says even though on paper, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) appears to be contesting the majority of the seats, it is DAP which will gain the most number of seats
(Berita Daily) – PAS today predicted that DAP will lead Opposition pact Pakatan Harapan in the 14th general election, which must be held within the next 8 months.
PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said even though on paper, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) appears to be contesting the majority of the seats, it is DAP which will gain the most number of seats.
PPBM, he said, cannot take on any more seats as DAP already has its traditional strongholds and hardcore voter base.
He said the distribution of 52 parliamentary seats to PPBM compared to DAP’s 35 seats is meant ‘to cloud the eyes of the Malay voters’, by giving the illusion that DAP is not the dominant party in the opposition pact.
“Actually, PPBM has no real seats to its name, save for Pagoh, which it won under a Barisan Nasional ticket. Another seat under Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) was won under a Pas ticket.
“As such, the chances of them losing are higher. In the end, DAP will emerge the dominant party as it has its traditional seats and strongholds,” he said, reported the New Straits Times.
On Pakatan Harapan’s decision to name PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its prime ministerial candidate if the pact wins GE14, Mohd Amar said this proved that the pact has no other credible persons for the post.
“To me, the nomination is a weak move. Mahathir has a lot of unpleasant history. The people already know this,” he said.
