News portal probe: Editor, others called in by MCMC
(The Star) – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has summoned the editor, director and several individuals from The Malaysian Insight in an investigation over an article it published recently.
MCMC said it was conducting the investigation after receiving “many complaints” from the public.
“MCMC urges everyone not to speculate and to give us space for a fair and just investigation,” it said in a statement Tuesday.
According to The Malaysian Insight, the article being probed was an editorial titled “A sham of an RCI” about the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Bank Negara Malaysia’s foreign exchange losses in the 1990s.
The portal said five people, including its chief executive officer and editor Jahabar Sadiq, were summoned by the Internet regulator.
