Kit Siang mulls quitting politics to save DAP from deregistration
(MMO) – DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said today he would consider retiring from politics if it would prevent his party from getting deregistered ahead of the next general elections.
The DAP veteran, who has been with the party since its formation over 50 years ago, urged the Barisan Nasional (BN) government not to beat around the bush, after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s press secretary, Datuk Seri Tengku Sariffuddin, said last Saturday that the DAP may not be allowed to use its party logo in the 14th general elections as the Registrar of Societies (RoS) did not recognise the validity of the party’s central executive committee.
“If my political retirement is the condition for the end of the Umno/ BN conspiracy to deregister DAP, say so, and I will give it consideration,” Lim said in a statement.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said yesterday that the DAP’s fate is expected to be known next week when he meets RoS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah.
Zahid, who is also the deputy prime minister, said he “does not see any effort to deregister DAP or otherwise.”
