‘I need Mahathir’s forgiveness like I need a hole in my head’

(Malaysia Outlook) – “I need Mahathir’s forgiveness like I need a hole in my head.”

This was the response given by former DAP national vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim to former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

Mahathir, writing on his blog yesterday, said he forgave those who had been ‘slandering him all year long’.

The former Premier specifically named TV3, Utusan Malaysia, the New Straits Times as well as Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak, Tunku Abdul Aziz and Umno Supreme Council member Annuar Musa as those who he claimed slandered him, among others.

Tunku Abdul Aziz in commenting on what Mahathir said, opined that what was written was probably done ‘in a fit of absent-mindedness in keeping with a gentleman of his (Mahathir) advanced years’.

Describing Annuar and Salleh as two Umno luminaries of note, Tunku Abdul Aziz said he was ‘naturally thrilled to bits’ to be included in the posting along with the two Umno gentlemen.

“Speaking entirely for myself, his forgiveness based on his assumption of my guilt without proof as is his wont, is so typical of this man who looks for scapegoats wherever he thinks he can find them to blame for troubles of his own making,” Tunku Abdul Aziz said, adding that the offer of forgiveness was misplaced and without any basis in fact.
