Syed Saddiq: Nothing new about MACC report on Dr M’s kids
(FMT) – PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman today expressed shock over the report lodged against the children of party chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad by PPBM member Abdul Wahazir Abdul Wahabi.
“Yes, this comes as a shock to us because he has been quiet for quite some time, and suddenly this happened,” Syed told FMT.
He was referring to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) report lodged yesterday, in which Wahazir claimed Mahathir’s four children – Marina, Mokhzani, Mukhriz and Mirzan – owned more than 480 companies since their father’s rule as prime minister.
Syed said he supported the MACC investigation if the anti-graft authorities felt that wrongdoing had been committed.
“But I am confident on this issue that there is no case. The reason why I say so is because this is not the first time the issue has been raised.
“A few months ago, I remember the same issue was raised, the same reports were made, and the same thing happened last year.
“This is just being recycled and reused to divert the rakyat’s attention from the RM106 million worth of necklace mentioned in the US Department of Justice report,” he said.
According to Syed, although Wahazir is still a member of PPBM, he is no longer a Youth exco member as he had failed to show up for three meetings and had ignored all calls made by Syed and other party members.
Syed added that Wahazir’s case had been forwarded to the party’s disciplinary board for further action.
“It is important that we go through the due process before a decision is made,” Syed said.
Syed also claimed that Wahazir was one of the people Mahathir had mentioned in a blog post yesterday, in which the former prime minister alleged that PPBM Youth members were being offered money to leave the party.
In his post, Mahathir claimed PPBM Youth members were being offered RM10,000 to RM50,000, alleging that those receiving RM50,000 were made to sign documents requiring them to vote for BN.
