Ampang PKR Youth chief probed for his ‘unusual’ wealth
(The Star) – Ampang PKR Youth chief Datuk Adam Rosly has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in an investigation into his “unusual” wealth.
An MACC source told The Star that Adam, 28, was handcuffed and quizzed for several hours at the commission’s headquarters here Thursday.
“He was seen with his hands cuffed at the lobby of our headquarters at about 4.10pm prior to being brought to another location,” the MACC source said.
The source added that Adam was detained at 3.30pm, almost a hour after he was interrogated by the MACC.
“He is now under detention for the next 24 hours,” the source said.
The source said that the Commission would apply for a remand order on Friday.
“The MACC is investigating the case under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001,” the source added.
Adam appeared at the MACC headquarters here at 2.30pm on Thursday to have his statement recorded for the second time.
The special officer to Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin was seen wearing an orange batik shirt and posed for photographs before entering the MACC headquarters.
His wealth came into the spotlight last year after his political opponents questioned how he was able to afford his castle-style bungalow in Ampang at his age.
Adam however refuted this, saying that he had amassed his wealth – including the money to buy his RM1mil bungalow – through business ventures and an inheritance.
He also said that his datukship from Pahang was due to his contributions to several projects in the state.
