Mukhriz: Let Pribumi be glue to hold opposition parties together
(The Star) – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia hopes to be the glue that holds all opposition parties together.
Its deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said there is hope yet for them to co-exist although PAS and Parti Amanah Negara do not see eye to eye.
“Today PAS invited us to share the stage in Kelantan, while Amanah also invited us to share the stage in Johor.
“This is a good development. It also negates claims by certain people that PAS has shut its doors on us,” he said.
Mukhriz said Pribumi is open to negotiations with any party because it is not bogged down by any baggage.
“We have endorsed a deal with Pakatan Harapan (for straight fights against Barisan Nasional in the next general election), and we are still open to negotiations with PAS,” he said.
Mukhriz was at a function where former Kuala Krai Umno Youth committee member Abdul Rahman Muda handed over membership application forms from 200 PAS and Umno members who quit their parties to join Pribumi.
Mukhriz said Pribumi is on a recruitment drive to ensure that it has its own machinery in the general election.
“To oust Umno/Barisan Nasional, we need to establish a strong ground machinery,” he said.
Mukhriz said Pribumi still maintained a cordial relationship with PAS although some of its leaders had said hurtful things.
“We know some people use underhanded tactics to foil PAS-Pribumi relationships.
“But all those who are making noise are not part of the negotiation team.
“We have held three negotiation sessions with PAS. And they all went smoothly,” he said.
