Salleh Said Keruak: Resignations show discontent in DAP
(The Star) – The resignation of four DAP lawmakers from Malacca shows that there is discontent about the party rubbing shoulders with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
The Communications and Multimedia Minister said that DAP grassroots leaders were not happy with DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang dealing with the former prime minister and that the situation has reached its “breaking point”.
“The fact that Mahathir and Kit Siang said many nasty things about each other in the past and now embrace each other demonstrates a lack of principles and morals,” said Salleh.
He added in a blog post on Sunday that a level of honour and integrity has to be maintained even when united by a common objective.
Salleh said that there were many more in DAP who were just as dissatisfied but did not want to rock the boat, adding that there were also Malay supporters of Pakatan Harapan who were unhappy about the former premier’s involvement in the Opposition.
He added that the voters would show their discontent in the general election if this state of affairs continued.
“All the gains the Opposition made in 2008 and 2013 are going to be lost in the next general election,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that there was no turning back now for the Opposition.
“The damage has already been done and after this U-turn it will be impossible to do yet another U-turn,” he said.
Earlier on Sunday, four DAP elected representatives – Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him, Duyong assemblyman Goh Leong San, Bachang assemblyman Lim Jak Wong and Kesidang assemblyman Chin Choong Seong – quit the party saying that DAP had deviated from its goals and objectives.
