Husam trying to avoid contesting the next election

Party leader Hadi claims accusation of PAS getting RM90 million from Umno is just a ruse to invite a legal suit to disqualify ex-leader Husam from the next election because he doesn’t really want to run.

(FMT) – PAS has a simple explanation as to why its former member alleged that the party received RM90 million from Umno.

The reason is that its former vice-president Husam Musa (pic) was trying to get into prison or fined more than RM2,000 to avoid contesting in the next general election, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said today.

He said that Husam, who is the Kelantan Amanah adviser, wanted to be taken to court and be found guilty of lying, just so he would be disqualified from participating in the polls.

“I believe he doesn’t want to contest in the general election. That’s why he made the allegation. If he’s taken to court for lying, when he loses, he can’t contest.

“But if he doesn’t want to contest, just say, so it’ll be easier,” Hadi told reporters here today.

Husam will be disqualified from the polls if he is sentenced to more than a year in prison, or fined more than RM2,000.

Hadi’s statement came as PAS announced its intention to proceed with legal action against Husam after a video of him claiming that the party received RM90 million from its political opponent, Umno, went viral on social media.

Husam had allegedly said this in one of his lectures on video, where he also said the money was channelled through an Affin Bank account.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has denied the allegations, and blamed whistle-blower site Sarawak Report for starting the rumour.

The Islamist party had also initiated legal action against Sarawak Report when it handed a letter of demand to the editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown, requesting her to remove the relevant articles and make a public apology.

Brown however clarified that the claim of Prime Minister Najib Razak wooing PAS with RM90 million was merely a “widespread suspicion”.
