‘Lim Kit Siang has been successfully turned over’

(Malaysia Outlook) – Has DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang lost his fangs or did he hang up his superhero costume as the self-projected conscience of the nation for the sake of political ambition?

Former DAP national vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim said Kit Siang’s change of attitude was difficult to reconcile with, in particular, over the latter’s studied silence on the Bumiputera Malaysia Finance Ltd (BMF) scandal and the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) foreign exchange (forex) losses of the 80s and 90s respectively.

This has puzzled many as the Gelang Patah member of Parliament had once upon a time been a strong critic of the two scandals.

“The gnashing of the teeth, the foaming at the mouth, the bulging blazing eyes of indignation and the thunderous messianic voice of self-righteousness have today, even as I speak, given way to what I can only fairly describe as the silence of the lamb,” Tunku Abdul Aziz said at a press conference this morning at the Eastin Hotel, Petaling Jaya.

The social activist attributed the change to Kit Siang having been successfully led to the ‘slaughter house’ by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

“In short, his submission to Mahathir’s will is total and complete. Lim Kit Siang had been successfully turned over,” Tunku Abdul Aziz remarked.

This was in reference to DAP appearing to be working side by side with Mahathir’s new political platform, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi).

It was no secret that previously Kit Siang had been a thorn in the side for Mahathir, however with recent changes in the Malaysian political scene, both have been appearing at several events together, with the latest being a press conference held yesterday by former Law Minister Zaid Ibrahim.

Tunku Abdul Aziz had also claimed previously that there was a secret pact between the DAP adviser and Mahathir to appoint Mukhriz Mahathir as the Prime Minister and Kit Siang as his deputy, should the Opposition coalition wrest Putrajaya from Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next General Election.

“Now that we have established that Kit Siang’s much trumpeted political principles are in fact negotiable, on offer to the highest bidder, we can conclude that he is also an accomplished practitioner of the politics of the expedient,” Tunku Abdul Aziz said today.

“The quid pro quo in this instance is that in return for Mahathir giving the DAP his political seal of approval, which he has, Kit Siang would not insist on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) that he demanded so noisily for the BMF affair in the 1980s in which a loss of RM2.5 billion of public money was incurred.

“A good deal for his brand of politics but a bad one for the unsuspecting public,” Tunku Abdul Aziz added.
