Proton reshuffle fuels speculation of China tie-up
(FMT) – China’s Geely Automobile Ltd reportedly leading French carmaker Groupe PSA in the race to be Proton’s new strategic partner.
The involvement of mainland China businesses and industry in Malaysia is expected to grow with Proton being linked to a mainland China auto manufacturer.
In the wake of a reshuffling of top management at Proton Holdings Bhd, a New Straits Times (NST) report yesterday speculated it to be an indication of a Chinese carmaker edging closer towards becoming its foreign partner.
Recent reports have suggested that China’s Geely Automobile Ltd was leading French carmaker Groupe PSA in the race to be Proton’s new strategic partner, with both carmakers actively undertaking due diligence work at Proton’s headquarters currently.
According to NST, Proton is aiming to announce its strategic partner in April.
