PKR welcomes PAS-Pribumi cooperation
(The Star) – PKR has welcomed the cooperation between PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia for the coming general election, saying it shows the maturity of leaders of both parties.
PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (pic) said Malaysians are ready for reform and that party leaders should be humble and willing to compromise, and show maturity in evaluating and making decisions that can meet the expectations and aspirations of the people.
“It is a positive effort to strengthen the two-party system and provide an alternative that is dynamic, strong and viable for people to replace Umno and Barisan Nasional,” he said in a statement Thursday.
He said PKR will work with PAS and Pribumi to strengthen the cooperation among opposition political parties, as well as mobilise the people to face the elections.
PAS and Pribumi announced Wednesday that they had agreed to work together in the next general election.
In a meeting led by PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and his Pribumi counterpart Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, both parties agreed to fine-tune a framework for cooperation.
“The framework will be refined by the top leaders of both parties and signed by the presidents in the near future,” Tuan Ibrahim and Mukhriz said in a joint statement.
The meeting, attended by delegations from both parties, also agreed to form a joint technical committee in preparation for the general election.
