Pas accuses DAP, PKR of playing “dirty politics” which sank Pakatan Rakyat
(NST) – In another stinging jab to the opposition bloc, Pas Ulama information chief Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali has accused the DAP and PKR of employing the same “dirty politics” which divided the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat pact.
Responding to a claim reiterated by DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang that Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had violated Pakatan’s consensus, leading to its downfall, Khairuddin cited Selangor’s leadership crisis as an example of the DAP and PKR’s tendency to act recklessly.
He said when the DAP and PKR moved to oust of Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor Menteri Besar, against Pas’ wishes, the two parties had effectively violated the alliance’s consensus system.
“When the Pas president disagreed with efforts to topple Khalid in Selangor (solely on the basis of) accusations and without evidence, it did not mean he went against the pact. Interestingly, the court (in a lawsuit) had found the allegations to be false and slanderous.
“(Then), when Pas did not agree that only one name should be submitted as a Selangor Menteri Besar candidate, it did not mean that we violated a consensus. In the end, the DAP and PKR had to seek forgiveness from the Sultan of Selangor, for going against His Majesty’s instruction to submit more than one name.
“In both cases, the Pas president was proven to be right in his decisions,” Khairuddin said in a statement today. Amid current tensions between Pas and the DAP, Khairuddin said it is Lim who does not know the difference between “rule by consensus” and “rule by majority”.
“Does he not know the difference between ‘consensus’ and ‘majority’? Pakatan Rakyat was running on consensus-based decisions. When there is a difference in views, a consensus cannot be reached. While, in the majority system, the minority must concede to the wishes (of) the majority.
“Is (Lim) trying to defend something that is indefensible? Has he come out with a nonsensical (accusation against Hadi) just because he is angry with the Pas president?”
Khairuddin said the Selangor leadership crisis would have been averted if the DAP and PKR adhered by the consensus system.
“DAP and PKR were guilty of dividing the Pakatan Rakyat. They used the Pas president as an excuse to sweep their mistakes under the carpet. And now, the story is being repeated (by Lim), with the hopes that the people will not be able to understand their dirty politics,” Khairuddin added.
