Dr Wee: DAP leader also expressed intention of meeting Liow and Mah

(The Star) – DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang should clarify his party’s intention to cooperate with PAS or other parties, said MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).

“Due to DAP empowering PAS, today our nation has landed in this situation. Now, under the guise of ‘saving the country’, DAP keeps changing its statements, which leaves it totally untrustworthy,” Dr Wee said in a statement yesterday.

Lim has come under fire for saying that he was willing to negotiate with PAS to ensure a greater Opposition coalition in the next general election.

The Gelang Patah DAP MP, however, said that cooperation could only happen if PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang made saving the country from becoming “a rogue state as a top priority as part of the national agenda for the next 10 years.”

Dr Wee said the veteran DAP leader had also expressed his intention to meet MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong.

“First of all, I would like to urge Lim Kit Siang to clarify as to who he wants to work with? Is it Pakatan Harapan, MCA or Gerakan? Next, he must clarify who is he speaking on behalf of?

“Pakatan Harapan, DAP or he himself? Only if he can clarify these questions, should he talk about saving the country,” said Dr Wee.

Dr Wee, who is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, also described Lim’s statement on PAS, saving the country and party cooperation as “untrustworthy”, as DAP had been previously inconsistent in its stance.

“Whether in the past, present or future, DAP’s statements will only be empty talk with no concrete actions,” said Dr Wee.

“History teaches us how inconsistent DAP can be, especially when it comes to political issues, for example PAS’ hudud enactment and co-operation with PAS.

“DAP can sell its principles for political gains, anytime, as in the cases of pawning interests of the non-Muslim community and empowering PAS,” he said.

He said that in the past, DAP had whitewashed PAS, and promoted the hardline party to the masses just for the sake of winning votes.

“Now, they want to work with MCA to save the country.

“Lim, please clarify why you betrayed the non-Muslim community in the first place?

“Why have you remained silent when MCA consistently and strongly opposes PAS’ hudud enactments?

“Why does DAP still want to work with PAS and continue to pawn the interests of ethnic and religious minorities in Malaysia?” he asked.

In a separate statement, MCA Youth chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon hit out at Lim over his willingness to cooperate with PAS.

Chong said Lim’s remarks proved MCA’s assertion that DAP “is one of the best practitioners of political expediencies to garner lost votes”.

He said that since the creation of the party, DAP had been mounting various creative and magnificent slogans in attempts to sway and deceive non-Muslims into supporting the Opposition.

“They have continued to use various excuses to rationalise PAS, seeking a common ground after their temporal break-up,” Chong said yesterday.
