Shahrir Abdul Samad, the MP for Johor Bahru, replaces Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, who remains chairman of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd.

(FMT) – Shahrir Abdul Samad has been named the new Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) chairman in line with the government’s aspiration to strengthen the agency’s leadership.

Shahrir is the Johor Bahru Member of Parliament.

He replaces Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, whose term has ended.

However, Isa remains chairman of Felda Global Ventures Holdings (FGV) Bhd.

Prime Minister Najib Razak, in a statement today, said under the restructuring, there will be a division of responsibilities towards settlers’ welfare and socio-economic status, and Felda’s business.

“I am confident he will be able to continue with all efforts being taken to look after the welfare of Felda settlers,” the prime minister said in a statement here.

Najib, in the statement, also thanked Isa for his contributions to Felda since taking up the chairman’s post in 2011.

In his chequered career, Shahrir has also been the chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and also the Public Accounts Committee, which demands accountability from government bodies.

Najib said under the leadership of Isa, Felda had facilitated many community activities and programmes to improve the quality of life of the settlers and their families.
