Tunku Aziz challenges Mukhriz, Kit Siang to disprove alleged secret deal
(MMO) – Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim today challenged Datuk Muhkriz Mahathir and Lim Kit Siang to make statutory declarations denying a secret arrangement on their alleged ambitions for Putrajaya.
The former DAP vice chairman claimed last week that there was a clandestine pact between DAP and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) to make Mukhriz the prime minister and Lim his deputy if Pakatan Harapan wins the next general election.
“I would strongly urge Mukhriz and Lim Kit Siang to make a statutory declaration that they entertain no political ambitions to be prime minister or deputy prime minister, ever,” Tunku Aziz said in a press conference today.
He also said he stood by the information shared by his source and will not reveal the person’s identity as demanded by Mukhriz, who has threatened to sue over the allegation.
“The source is impeccable and information is unimpeachable that is why I dare to make an open statement,” Tunku Aziz said.
PPBM deputy president Mukhriz reportedly threatened to sue Tunku Aziz for defamation unless he proved his claim by identifying the source who informed him of the deal purportedly made on December 3.
However, Tunku Aziz alleged today that the agreement was mooted by PPBM chairman and Mukhriz’s father, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, in order to get the DAP’s support.
“The proposal came from Dr Mahathir. It is a quid pro quo, ‘if my son becomes prime minister then we will agree to you (Lim) become Deputy Prime minister,” he claimed.
He added DAP and PPBM were denying the allegation as the Malay community would baulk at the idea of Lim becoming deputy prime minister.
“The essence of the whole issue rests on the fact there is a hidden agenda. DAP cannot go alone and therefore it needs Malay support.
“Malay support will be withheld if the Malays are told clearly if [Lim Kit Siang] is going to be DPM if Pakatan wins next elections,” Tunku Aziz added.
