MACC: Bahri’s retirement not due to SRC International case

(The Star) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has said that its former Special Operations Division director Datuk Bahri Mohd Zin did not opt for early retirement because the case against SRC International could not be brought to court.

An MACC spokesperson said the commission has contacted Bahri and he denied issuing such a statement to an online portal.

“We confirmed that he applied for early retirement six months ago,” said the MACC.

The MACC added that Bahri’s actions were in line with Public Service Department regulations which state that any government employee that wants to retire early must make their application six months prior to their retirement.

“He was the Special Operations Division director since June 14, 2014 and retired on Dec 30, 2016,” the MACC said in a statement on Tuesday.

He retired two years ahead of his official retirement age of 60.

Efforts to contact Bahri to get his comments have been unsuccessful.

It was reported earlier in a Malay-language daily that the 58-year-old Bahri had opted for early retirement due to his frustrations over the SRC International Sdn Bhd investigations.
