Azmin upset over PAS’ stance on Sungai Besar

(The Star) – Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is both angry and disappointed that PAS is refusing to cooperate in the state’s strategy to win the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election.

According to a PKR source, the PAS top leadership was uncompromising despite Azmin explaining in depth that the Islamist party won’t be short changed and its interests would be well protected.

“PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang is insisting that PAS must contest in spite of being informed that PKR has a better chance of winning the seat,” said the source.

He added that Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, who was in negotiations with Azmin, was also unable to convince his party boss and had been pushed against the wall by the stalemate.

When contacted, Azmin’s political secretary Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei was, however, optimistic as there was still time before nomination on June 5.

The Sungai Besar parliamentary seat, which became vacant after incumbent Datuk Noriah Kasnon was killed in a helicopter crash in Sarawak on May 5, has 33% Chinese voters and 1.9% Indian voters.
