MCA’s Ti to DAP: Ask Dr M of his ‘past actions’
(The Star) – The Opposition should question Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on his take on the constitutional changes the former premier made during his time in power, said MCA Religious Harmony Bureau chairman Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker.
“Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been largely responsible for many amendments to the Federal Constitution. Some rightly so and others may be debatable.
“Now that Dr Mahathir is standing together with the opposition, DAP or Pakatan should seize this opportunity to seek his clarification or enlightenment on his actions,” Ti said in a statement on Friday.
He said the same questions should be asked to former Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also brought about many policy changes and amendments to the Constitution that DAP was up in arms against.
Ti questioned what part of the Constitution that the Opposition, specifically the DAP, wanted to amend or revoke if they were to come into power, considering their support of the two individuals “whom they have blamed for all the nation’s past ills or wrongs.”
“DAP must now tell us whether Anwar Ibrahim and now Tun Mahathir are ready to make amends and apologise for the wrongs as alleged by DAP,” he said.
If Dr Mahathir and Anwar were to see no wrongdoing or refuse to take responsibility in their actions, Ti wondered if DAP would “take them to task on a matter of principle.”
“DAP cannot shift the blame on MCA when they are now ‘sleeping’ with Anwar and Mahathir, who were solely responsible for the alleged Constitutional amendments,” he said.
“Can we trust DAP to walk their talk?” he asked.
