Sarawak polls: Honour seat agreement or see PR collapse, DAP tells PKR

Chong-Chieng-Jen

(The Star) – Sarawak DAP has called on its coalition partner PKR to honour their agreement on the seat allocations and not “cause a collapse of Pakatan Harapan.”

Its chief, Chong Chieng Jen (pic), said that DAP would keep to the agreement and hoped PKR would do the same.

Chong was asked on the possibility of a head-on clash with PKR in certain seats in Sarawak at a press conference.

Last week, despite claims by DAP that they have finalised seat negotiations, PKR had said otherwise. It was reported that at least five seats would see a three-cornered  flight.

Chong said the seat negotiations had been agreed upon at the national level and should no longer be disputed.

“They were represented by Datuk Seri Azmin Ali. He is the deputy president of the party.

“If he has no power, then why send him to negotiate in the first place? He agreed and even signed a note,” he said.

Chong stressed that DAP would stick to its part of the agreement.

“We have given up seats and many are disappointed but they are willing to go to other areas and help.

“Take the Batu Kitang seat for example, the highest chance for DAP to win would be there, because it was carved out of two DAP seats, but we have given it to PKR.

“So I call upon PKR to honour the agreement and not cause a collapse in the party,” he said.
