Mahathir: Hold Najib responsible for 1MDB scandal
(FMT) – Former Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad has charged in his latest blog posting that Prime Minister Najib Razak, as Chairman of the Advisory Panel on 1MDB, should be held responsible for the global 1MDB Scandal.
Mahathir thinks that there’s something very wrong in the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Report on the company pointing the fingers of blame solely at former CEO Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi. “Of course, action should be taken against Shahrol, as recommended by the PAC. However, action should also be taken against Najib for being found wanting in his oversight role on the company.”
Briefly, said Mahathir in laying out the case against Najib on the global 1MDB scandal, the latter did not perform his fiduciary duties. “Also, as Chairman of the Advisory Panel on 1MDB, it appears that he did not take 1MDB’s use of government funds seriously.”
“Apparently, he allowed those below him to take various decisions on investments by the billions, transfers of monies, borrowings, and extension of loans. All these led to massive losses.”
