‘Save Malaysia’ movement just another game of politics, ex-Selangor MB says
(MMO) – Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim today criticised the Save Malaysia movement for focussing their efforts on what he said were high profile issues like changing the country’s leadership, instead of addressing real issues concerning the economy.
The former Selangor mentri besar also said the movement led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was more engaged in playing politics than in actually solving the country’s problems.
“I think a lot of time we are spending more on the politics of it. We should be discussing on how to improve the management of the country’s economy, how to develop various organisations and I think that’s what we want now.
“I think the issue of selecting leadership and all that should be left at the election period,” he told Malay Mail Online when met today.
Khalid, who was formerly from PKR, also said that he does not plan to be a part of the movement or participate in any of its rallies.
He took a swipe at Dr Mahathir for masterminding the movement, saying the elder statesman should focus instead on helping the poor in his home state of Kedah.
“I’m sure Dr Mahathir can do a lot on poverty in Kedah. I think if he spends his limited valuable time, he can improve the lives of thousands of families,” Khalid said.
Dr Mahathir said last month that the Save Malaysia movement aims to get a million signatures by the end of the year to pressure the rulers to take a stand on the political situation in the country.
The movement seeks to unseat Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over his handling of controversies like the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) saga and the RM2.6 billion political donation.
