Suspended Sim wants DAP to decide on his membership
(The Star) – Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him (pic) has called on DAP to make a decision on his membership, saying he feels like he is in a limbo since February.
Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby on Monday, he said it is not fair for the party to leave his position undecided.
“They have to tell me whether I am now an independent or if they still want me in the party.
“They have suspended me, but when I say I am not a DAP parliamentarian, they ask me who gave me the right to say that, so I am neither here nor there,” he added.
On Feb 6, DAP issued one-year suspensions on Sim and Duyong assemblyman Goh Leong San.
Party disciplinary committee secretary Tai Xing Piao said the two were suspended because they had repeatedly made statements damaging DAP’s reputation.
Explaining that he received his suspension letter in February, Sim said he wrote to the Parliament Speaker to inform him of the situation.
“I wanted to see what the Speaker would arrange in terms of seating.
“The seating remained the same and he told me that the decision was up to the party. He told me that ‘only if the party says you are independent, then you are’,” said Sim.
He said he was disappointed with the party, which now appears to be unable to deal with dissent.
He added that he felt sidelined by the party and that it was sad if it only wanted “yes men” as members.
