(FMT) – The MP noted that Khairy Jamaluddin signed the Corporate Integrity Pledge on behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Given the seriousness of an investigation, including on assets worth RM20 million and cash in 69 bank accounts totalling RM8.3 million found with a civil servant, Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming hopes that Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin will shed more light on the case.

“He should have been briefed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or received information from it about the investigation.”

“It was disturbing to read about the RM100 million scandal involving the civil servant, from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, that was revealed by the MACC last weekend.”

He was commenting on reports that Khairy would be giving a press conference at his Ministry on Monday at 10 am on the issue. “Questions arise on whether any of the companies implicated in the MACC investigation were paid by the Ministry, the National Sports Council, or the Malaysian Youth Council, directly or indirectly, after he became Minister.”

Ong noted that Khairy signed the Corporate Integrity Pledge in May 2014, on behalf of the Ministry, as part of an initiative by the Anti-Corruption National Key Results Area (NKRA) under the Government Transformation Programme (GTP). “He should spell out specific changes in the procurement process and/or the awarding of contracts in the Ministry as part of the Corporate Integrity Pledge.”

There’s speculation that the key person arrested was the secretary of the finance department added Ong. “Khairy should explain in detail the process in which the secretary would approve payments by the Ministry and any related agencies to companies with contracts awarded by the Ministry and any of its related agencies, either directly or indirectly.”

One of the companies named in the parliamentary Public Account Committee (PAC) hearing on the K-Pop concert and the expenditure during the National Youth Day was Stadium First Sdn Bhd, recalled Ong. The company was also named in one of the blogs, which accused it of corrupt practices.

“Did Stadium First continue to receive any contracts from the Ministry or any related agencies after Khairy became Minister of Youth and Sports?”
