(Astro Awani) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that the RM 2.6 billion in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s account was a private contribution from the Saudi royals.

This was confirmed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman.

“On the RM2.6 billion case, based on the witness and supporting documents submitted, the MACC has confirmed that the donation had come personally from the Saudi royals,” she said in a written reply at the Parliament today.

She was replying to a question from Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar who wanted to know the latest in the RM2.6 billion issue.

On another question on SRC International, Azalina said the MACC had said that their investigation revealed no graft in the Prime Minister’s part.

“Based on the facts, the Attorney-General’s office is satisfied that there is no criminal elements in the case,” she added.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) had claimed that Saudi Arabia officials have said their finance and foreign ministers had no knowledge of the donation into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s bank account, without naming the officials.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak had said the WSJ’s claim is a wild accusation.

On Dec 31, 2015, the MACC had submitted its investigation papers on SRC International and the RM2.6 billion donation to the AG Tan Sri Mohamad Apandi had said he would study the documents closely, noting that evidence had been compiled from more than 100 witnesses.

On Jan 18, the AG returned both investigations papers back to the commission to seek ‘better explanation of some of MACC’s proposed suggestions and actions’.

Eight days later, Mohamad Apandi cleared Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s of any wrongdoing in the two cases, citing insufficient evidence to implicate the premier.

The MACC subsequently sought the ORP to review the AG’s order to close both cases.
