(Malay Mail Online) – Former Terengganu mentri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said’s bid to push a no-confidence vote against the incumbent may be linked to a federal ouster campaign headed by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the state chairman of the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) has suggested.

Wan Abdul Hakim Wan Mokhtar also said the Umno disciplinary board will be meeting soon to discuss Ahmad’s surprise action in the state assembly yesterday, Malay daily Berita Harian reported today.

“I do not deny the possibility that the motion was tabled due to what happened at the central level involving Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir,” the Terengganu BNBBC chief was quoted saying.

Dr Mahathir and over 40 politicians from the Barisan Nasional coalition as well as civil society leaders signed a “citizens’ declaration” last Friday campaigning for the removal of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Ahmad who was forced to resign from office in May 2014, a year after winning in the general election, stunned the Terengganu state legislative assembly yesterday when he tried to table a motion against his successor Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman.

However, the Speaker rejected his motion, citing failure to comply with procedure which requires assemblymen to give a two-week notice for their motions.
