Umno information chief: Muhyiddin seen having personal agenda by suddenly becoming very vocal
(Bernama) – Suspended Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is being construed as having a personal agenda by suddenly becoming very vocal, said Umno Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
He said this cropped up because Muhyiddin, prior to this, did not speak much at Umno Supreme Council (MT) meetings, much less to be so loud.
“I have been an MT member since more than 25 years ago and indeed Muhyiddin is not one who talks much in MT meetings. This is a far cry from what he is trying to portray now,” he said in a statement, here, yesterday.
He said this was why many among his friends were wondering why Muhyiddin has suddenly become very vocal, including harping on issues that he himself had not brought out openly before at the MT meetings.
“And this was what has caused him to be rejected by almost all of the members of MT, and Umno divisions,” he said.
Annuar said it was not adequate for him to say he criticised sincerely, but the sincerity should be seen clearly and must embroidered with intelligence, wisdom and deeds.
“The actions which were clearly following the rhythm of the enemies and were clearly bringing bad tidings which will definitely be rejected by the millions of other Umno members, who are also sincerely keen to see that the party does not fall victim to enemies who want to see it in disarray,” he said.
He said Muhyiddin’s miscalculation had backfired when he was rejected outright by the Umno leadership lineups at all levels.
“It is not difficult for us to understand the path chosen by Muhyiddin prior to this. Review (the action), while there is still chance. Don’t choose not to help the president.
“Don’t be prompted by the confidence that (the Umno president and Prime Minister) can be toppled and he will have the opportunity to become Prime Minister and have a Deputy Prime Minister of his choice,” he said.
Annuar said that as a member of Umno, Muhyiddin now had rights as enshrined in the Umno constitution, and believed the former deputy prime minister would use the rights to the fullest.
“But he should remember, with the rights as a member comes responsibility to the party and the right of the party on the members including code of ethics and discipline which have to be observed.
He said it was important for the MT to ensure rules were enforced regardless of rank and position such as Muhyiddin himself had done numerous times as Management Committee Chairman.
Annuar said it was compulsory for anybody who opted to be members of Umno to obey the party’s motto “unite in party, loyal to leaders and serve religion, race and country with honesty and sincerity and believing in God’s decrees.”
